What we know about the disappearance of two California hikers

A couple hiking on a trail in California’s Sugar Lake Lodge were last seen alive when they were found on a remote mountain ridge, authorities said.

The hikers were identified as Michael and Sarah Zimring, both from Sugar Lake.

The two women were hiking on the Sugar Lake Mountain Trail, about two miles from their campground, about 9:30 a.m. on Thursday when they disappeared, according to a statement from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.

Their bodies were found Saturday morning near a small lake, sheriff’s Lt.

Kevin Wooten said.

Wooten told the Santa Maria Press Democrat newspaper the couple had not been heard from since.

The couple were last heard from in the area of the Sugar lake lodge about a mile from the lodge.

The sheriff’s office is still investigating the couple’s disappearance.
