Cedar Lodes, a place in the San Diego County park system known for its scenic beauty and waterfalls, is coming to life as the first family of Cedar Lodge begins construction on a $20 million renovation.
The hotel, with its signature “Mountain” logo, will be built on land in the foothills of the San Fernando Valley.
The new building will be completed by 2022 and open for business in 2024.
“I think this is really a great project,” said Jim Hulbert, Cedar Lodge’s chief executive officer and president.
“We’re really excited about it.”
The resort has operated in the Valley for more than 30 years and has hosted celebrities, royalty and dignitaries, including a former president of the United States, U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, former Gov.
Arnold Schwarzenegger and former California Gov.
A few years ago, the resort was named the top-rated hotel in the state of California.
The lodge opened in 2011 in a historic building, which is slated to be converted into apartments.
The Cedar Lodge project includes a new hotel with 200 rooms, new restaurants and shops, and a rooftop garden.
The resort will also add a new, larger pool and new pools for the pool and volleyball courts.
“It’s a unique and spectacular building, and it’s a real win-win,” said Hulberts brother Jim, who is also a member of the Board of Directors of Cedar.
“The community, the hotel, the guests, it’s all a win-get.”
A new restaurant and a spa, which will open in 2017, will feature local and regional craft beer.
Hulbers brother says the resort will offer amenities like a full bar and a large pool for families and friends to swim.
“This will be a place where the family can get together, enjoy the pool, the spa, and play some pool,” Hulbrants said.
“Cedar Lodge is about creating a place that is a great fit for the city of San Diego.”
Hulbetts said the resort’s design will emphasize its historic and beautiful setting and will have a sense of “character” to it.
He said he expects the hotel will attract more guests as it grows in popularity.
The first of three hotels under construction, the project will include a pool, spa, tennis court, meeting and meeting space and other amenities.
The construction of the resort began last spring.
The county is expected to issue a request for proposals for the hotel within six months.
The park district and the county also are expected to award a contract to the hotel’s developer.
Hauling up Cedar Lodge Construction “The Cedar Lodge is a wonderful project, but it’s going to be a long, long time before we see it complete,” Haules brother said.
The family hopes the resort and its new amenities will attract visitors to the valley, especially the San Joaquin Valley.
“Our goal is to create a place people want to come and live and work in and be part of,” Hulsberts said.
